Last night it snowed in Nashville. We don't have a lot of winter weather here so people don't quite know what to do when snow and ice happen. I live on a very steep hill and even though I'm the first house on the hill, there is quite a distance to travel down the hill before you hit a main road which is salted. I got up extra early this morning and realized that the dog had been barking much of the night because people had been abandoning their cars down by my house and walking up the hill to their residences. Thus, there were many cars parked by me. Next, the fool hardy ones trying to leave for work were using all their brake pads squealing and sliding down the road. I watched several have to give up the attempt and park their cars along the side of the road. I also watched one or two spin out as they were trying to drive at their normal speed. Sigh. Luckily, no one got hit in my neighborhood.
I ended up not even trying to get out of my driveway. I called a co-worker who passes my neighborhood on her way to work and asked if she'd be willing to pick up a hitchhiker if I got to Bell Road. She said yes, and called when she was 1/2 mile away, after passing the accident which involved a Bud Light truck with a semi that ended up nose to nose. I packed myself up, walked down the hill (to the envy of my stranded neighbors), crossed the street, and hopped in her car as she drove by. We made it to work safely. Yay!
PS - we also made it home safe. Even better news.
