Every couple has that favorite little Italian restaurant they run to for date night or to satisfy that urge for a comfort food like lasagna. Sometimes just the just a few notes of That's Amore! is just enough to make the stomach growl for some ziti. "Leave the guns. Take the cannoli." That's a quote from The Godfather. Yummm...cannoli.
For T & I our little favorite spot is in downtown M'boro called Marina's On the Square. The place is great for people watching too. There is always a family or two enjoying some special occasion. Another table or two has the business or professional types just off from a day of work somewhere around the square. You can always spot the table for two with a couple out on a date.
Our most recent trip was actually kind of a sad occasion. Two of our friends, Joe & Susan, are about to leave the Boro for a new home in FL. I first met Joe when I joined the Science Fiction and Fantasy book club at the Linebaugh Public Library in the fall of 2006. A few months later in April of 2007 Tracy joined the club and as you Dear Reader may know was the start of our friendship.
Joe and I have also spent many a Friday morning over a cup of coffee at The Clay Cup. Joe has become close to me like a crazy uncle. I also think that he has learned more about Sci-Fi literature that most avid readers have maybe second only to Tracy's Uncle Terry, another avid collector. Either way I would not want to play against either of them in Sci-Fi Jeopardy.
Back to the restaurant though.... Marina's does a great stuffed slice of pizza on the lunch menu. Most of the dishes come with bread and a side salad. I have been known to call in a to-go order for lunch, eat the pizza slice and save the bread and salad for dinner later that night. Not a bad way to stretch $8 bucks over two meals.
We will miss Joe and Susan but we wish them a good new life in Florida.
